Located within the former grounds of the Walter aircraft engine manufacturer, the design draws inspiration from the industrial heritage of the site. The rounded form with its combination of two ‘wheel like’ shapes provides a softer counterfoil for the orthogonal neighbouring buildings and complements the sloping character of the terrain.
The continuous curving balcony envelopes a functional and pragmatic apartment core enabling ease of construction and a reduction in costs. This external layer provides a buffer between the private and public realms and increases privacy using irregularly placed, floor to floor fins which also act as shading devices.
The development will provide 56 apartments. The client is Red Group.
